I would really like to know how somebody makes an A Men's final, comes back 2 weeks later, wins a BB Men's tournament, and then plays a Co-Ed A tournament the next day and wins? Something seems fishy here and the garbage needs to stop.

Any ETA on the '08 schedule? I'd like to try to organize something with getting some of the high school guys I coach out to play and learn some new skills. It'd be helpful to know when things will be starting so I can work it into our schedule.

Has anyone noticed that only like 3 or 4 tournaments a year get a really good number of open teams. Does anyone know why this is? I am just wondering if they are all going to other tournaments that we do not know about.

At 10:31 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think it would be cool if Chris would start some type of points system like the beach does. You get points for how well you do in your division and then at the end of the year the people with the highest amount of poitns would get some awards or some more prizes. This would be a great thing for all of us who attend his tournaments and maybe even a way to get some new people to keep coming back.

At 12:14 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The open players only go there when that is the only tournament there is and even then, most do not go there because they say he messes with the money and does not pay out properly. He needs to realize that other players are starting to go to the other tournaments also because where open players go, the rest of the people follow.

I am looking to drive to PA from columbus, OH to play in a few tournaments you guys offer. It is about a 7 hour drive and I am an open player seeking good competition. Which tournaments should I enter? I am attempting to come to the first on April 28th.

Was anyone else a little upset that Jeramy Rider was playing A / AA this week?

At 11:56 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I know not a lot of people check this, but I play A/AA and am friends with someone who played A/AA this past weekend. The person they played with was upset that Jeramy was playing that level (upset enough that I was told they wrote in to this thing complaining about it). Let me first say that I do not even know Jeramy other then from when I see him playing volleyball, but I will say this. He is not a sandbagger. The person he played with was an A player. In fact they had close games in pool play and in the playoffs (losing 5-1 in the finals). I like watching Jeramy play. He is not the biggest hitter, not the most athletic, and he is not even that tall(gives all us A players some hope). I have seen him numerous times beat teams that are more skilled then he is, but he wins because he never quits and outworks the other team to where they get frustrated and make mistakes. The other thing that seperates him from most open players is that he is quick to help other level players if they ask fro advice. Not a lot of open players take time to do that.
so for the person who complained...deal with it, it was not two open players playing together.

The money issue has been addressed with respect to the Open division. ECV is looking to payout at least 80% to Open. The last 2 weekends hosted 10
Open teams each weekend, and the payout was $320(1st) and $160(2nd). ECV hopes to increase this amount with addition of sponsors. As such, ECV is looking forward to guarantying money for its larger events. Stay tuned......

Does NAKO count as an ECV event? because you had 17 teams which is $1020. You paid out $400 + $200 + $80 + $80 = $760. $760 / $1020 = 74.5%. I don't want to call you a liar or anything, but what is up with that? I was just going to send you an email till I looked at this message board for the first time. Take care of your Open players and stop feeding them lines of crap. You posted on Facebook and this board "ECV is looking to payout at least 80% to Open." I really do not mind playing your tournaments you have them organized with shirts and decent prizes and if that leads to you having all the tournaments 1 day that is fine with me, but you have PROFITED way to much that with gas prices and such I do not care for you to say 1 thing and then doing another. Even if it means only a $56 difference.

At 1:10 AM, Blogger Eastcoast Volleyball said...

There were 16 eligible teams, as the Farmans are staff members and neither pay nor affect the playoffs at NAKO. As such, the total amount collected was $960. 80% is $768. We paid out $760 and gave everyone T-shirts. I went over this with Buckets as a witness. If the $8 is the issue, I am happy to give each of the 8 open players an extra $1 to settle the math with my apologies. To that end, I said 80% and I mean it....no crap.

The money issue has been addressed. Chris and I have been doing everything in our power to cooperate with the open players about the pay outs. To post an anonymous blog about a small monetary discrepancy is totally uncalled for. If you have a problem with what is going on at the tournaments say something to one of us and we will gladly explain what is going on. We have raised the payout to 80% this year and have payed out 80% each week. I dont hear complaining about the free food and drinks... web listings with results... hundreds of dollars for new T's each week. Also dont forget park fees insurance policies... and just for you... our own gas prices. That blue truck doesn't run on corn oil. Bottom line is to whom it may concern Chris and I are doing everything in our power to make these the best tournaments with the best competition and the best payouts around. It would be easier to work with the players if the players were more willing to work with us.

Chris,
It was good to see your stand at the Rumble this weekend. Its also great to hear that your payout has increased this year, as Derick and I are looking to play a good bit more this summer. Hopefully we can see 3 or 4 nets of Open on a more consistent basis. Cya soon,
JP.

I would like to say thanks to the open players who played the semi- final at sports fest. I played double b and my mom and I watched you guys play that match. I only hope to be that skilled one day. I also played in a tournament this weekend and two of you guys were there Mike and Derick. My mom insisted I talk to you both but I only could find one of you. I want to thank Mike for the positve things he said, also for taking the time to talk to us. Thanks Chris for having these guys around..

Wow. I find it somewhat amazing that a open player would take the time to write a comment about the Nako tournament and not have his facts correct. If the topic was brought up and discussed in front of open player Jason Buckwalter then this player must not have been paying attention. The line about taking care of the open players is totally uncalled for. I have been fielding complaints from open players for years now about the ECV and in my opinion they are not justified. I am not defending anyone here but the ECV tells you what they are paying, how much it costs to enter, and where the tourney is located. By agreeing to play at an ECV event you, the open guys, are also agreeing to the terms of the tournament. To automatically assume you should be paid 100% or more as some events offer as prize money would be foolish. I would not expect for any of the players to go to their jobs and work for free so to expect a promoter to do so is not reasonable.

As far as signing something anonymous, why after expressing your thoughts wouldn't you want to sign your name.

Horsham Day- Due to park regulations our normal schedule is going to be a little mixed up. We will be starting late and playing rally. Rest assured we will pack just as much of the fun and prizes into this short day as we do in our other events. There will be food vendors available along with the towns picnic. If the whole town is partying why shouldn't we? We are encouraging everybody to stick around to check out the Horsham Township Fireworks display with us at night. This is also the first event of the Juniors Triple Crown.

The Frenzy- New Sponsor. New Prizes. New Location. As summer heats up so does ECV. We are shaking things up in Amish Country with the first event of our Open Division Triple Crown and the second of our juniors division events. We will be giving away more prizes, more money, more food, and more good times than ever before. Come play, hang out, heckle, eat, party, or picnic with us.

Sportsfest- The biggest, toughest tournament around not named the Rumble. The Juniors Triple Crown champion will be crowned here. The Open Triple Crown race will be in its second and largest installment. All other divisions can expect their pick of any number of great new EAST COAST VOLLEYBALL MERCHANDISE PRIZES. Whether you are grinding for sideouts or stuffing your face with free watermelon and watching the areas best players battle it out, there is no better place to be.

The Classic- We're talking about bump, set, spike, chicks... well you know the rest if you've ever seen SIDEOUT. Here at ECV we've been keepin it old school since 1993 (it wasn't considered old school then). The summer comes to a close with this blowout event. We will be giving away everything we have left. The Mens Open Triple Crown Champion will also be decided at this event. Break out the neons, the primitive prints shorts and the killer loop shades. This one will go down in history!
